ISRO's (Indian Space Research Organisation) Regional Academic Centre for Space (RAC-S) at Gauhati University is set up following the singing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between ISRO and Gauhati University on 17th July, 2019.
The initiation of setting up of this academic centre was an effort by GU's former Vice Chancellor, Dr Mridul Hazarika in a meeting with Dr K Kasturirangan, former Chairman of ISRO, who visited Gauhati University to deliver the 27th Convocation address.
The final MoU was signed on 17th July, 2019 by Dr P V Venkitakrishnan (Director, CBPO, ISRO) on behalf of ISRO and Prof Nani Gopal Mahanta, Registrar (i/c) on behalf of GU, in a ceremony in presence of members of the faculty of GU, scholars, representatives of nearby universities and institutes.
